Back in May last year, I was lucky enough to win some bamboo yarn in a giveaway from the lovely Joey at Little Black Dog SA.Β
It was such a lovely yarn, but I couldn’t work out what I wanted to knit with it until I spotted this book…
I added it to my wish list and fortunately Santa – or maybe it was my mother in law – bought me a copy for Christmas. The moment the family left after Christmas, I pulled out the yarn and cast on…
Staring with only a few stitches wasΒ great, but it quickly grew and rows became slower and slower. Soon I was thinking it would take me all year to knit.
But I’m pleased to say it hasn’t. I finished just before Easter, but with family here it got left on the blocking boards…
…until this morning!
Looks fantasticπ

Thank you. I wasn’t sure about the shape, but the cute curl drew me to it and the shape worked once I’d figured out how to wear it.

very nice! I love the shape, it is not your standard shawl, but looks so elegant. π It was worth all that work, wasn’t it?

Thank you. Certainly worth the work – which I very much enjoyed. As I said in my comment above I was worried about the shape, but it works! π

it does seem to! and I would have also worried, because it isn’t one you see often. Now I wonder why not?

The finished thing is beautiful. I wondered about the size and how you would wear it as we went along – absolutely worth the effort, yes? It’s like a giant lace collar! I’m almost tempted – I have some bamboo yarn lying about somewhere gathering dust ……………

Thank you π As I’ve already said. I did wonder about the shape, but a bit of squinting at the pics in the book got me there and I would a agree more a collar than a shawl. Go for it!

Very refreshing to see a different shape to the usual shawl and it looks lovely. Close up that yarn is just gorgeous, isn’t it? Is it as nice against the skin as looks would promise?

Thank you. The yarn really is lovely. It looks silver in some lights, but in daylight has a pinky/lilacy hue that changes depending on what it’s worn with. And yes, really soft π

That turned out stunning! You did such beautiful work and I love the shape. I felt a bamboo / cotton blend awhile back and it was super soft. Did this soften up after soaking / blocking? I think you may have said awhile back that it was itchy? If not, sorry I mixed you up!

Thank you. No, the yarn was very soft from the start – you must be mixing me up with someone else.

Lovely shawl for throwing over your shoulders when the sun goes down at evening barbecues this summer – just don’t spill any ketchup on it!

I love this pattern, and can not believe how pretty the yarn worked for it. They seem to go together perfectly. Hope the yarn was nice to knit with, and it is light and pleasant to wear on Spring days. π

Thank you. Yes, it does work well with the pattern and it was lovely to knit π I confess to being a little disappointed I’ve finished it. Thank you so much again for giving it to me – such a generous gift that brought such pleasure into my life and will continue to do so π

I am so glad to hear you enjoyed our local yarn, as you are very fond of your own local yarns too. To think our seasons and weather and temperatures are pretty different, but yarn and knits and pretty goodies always keeps us connected. I am very honoured that you choose to make such a stunning shawl with it, thank you. It looks stunning on you. π

Thank you. It was definitely asking to be used for something lovely. Yes, it’s very different to our wild woolly yarn from the moor. Vive la difference! π
