Joining in again this week with Sunday Sevens – started by Nathalie at Threads and Bobbins – sharing seven (or so) pictures of the week beyond the blog.
It’s been a very much a stay at home week this week, with a few jaunts out locally. I went up to Bellever Forest with a friend and walked through the stone circles…
… then up to the top of Bellever Tor for a quick selfie…
…and a run down to see the beautiful clapper bridge just down from the forest car park.
I also waked all the way around Lydford Gorge for the first time in years…
Saturday we had a naughty lunchtime pizza while we waited for new tyres to be fitted to my car…
And in the evening we had a impromptu get together with friends. Boys, of course will be boys…
… and once it’s too dark to shoot things in the garden, there’s always the Nerf guns…
Hope you’ve had a great week.
Oh! the countryside side looks gorgeous and there are Dartmoor Ponies in the background. You are so lucky to leave near such beauty. Is there a legend to that particular stone circle?

Did you realise you were photobombed by a centaur at the top of Bellever Tor?

That clapper bridge is amazing, how is it made and why clapper?

It is, isn’t it. I love it, but hard to get a pic with no tourists stood on top! A clapper bridge means one made from large stone slabs resting on stone pedestals or the edge of the river bank. Apparently the word clapper derives from the word ‘cleaca’, meaning ‘bridging the stepping stones. I think they’re most prevalent on Dartmoor – although often nowhere near the size of that one – but apparently they are elsewhere in the UK too.

Thank you, I have never seen one like it before.

Maybe you should see if you can track any down on your moor?

Lovely scenic photos of your part of the West Country. I presume Tarr Steps on Exmoor is probably the longest example of a clapper bridge? Beautiful, aren’t they. Boys never grow out of the urge to fire a gun of sorts….

I would think you’re right – it’s a regular image you see when everyone mentions clapper bridges.
