Here I am, a week late making my bimonthly check on my progress for this year’s goals. Since things have gone rather astray since August and I’ve barely thought about goals, I almost didn’t review them. But there’s so much to learn from what we do and don’t achieve, I thought I’d do a quick review before I enter the home straight to the end of the year. And I’m glad I did, because progress really hasn’t been as bad as I thought…
Attend at least two workshops (or courses)ย – Big Tick here, a workshop at Farnham Maltings in February, which unfortunately taught me very little, and Jane Deane’s marvellous spinning course which has been quite simply amazing for many many reasons.
Knit Lovely Husband a Christmas Sweaterย – More progress has been made, but he seems to be around a lot, so I’m not getting much chance to work on it. But it WILL be finished in time.
Learn something knitting related each month – Completely and utterly lost track of what I have and haven’t done on this one!
Knit something that isn’t a project for the Dartmoor Yarn Company at least three times a week – I’ve definitely been sticking to this if I replace the word knitting with crochet – which I’m sure is allowed.
Make a knitted bag – not yet…
Make gift a least once a month – After a good start to the year I ground to a halt on this, but things have picked up lately: I’ve made the beaded angels and snowmen and nearly completed the wavelength sock, and with my sights on Christmas, I’m feeling confident I’ll make a dozen gifts this year.
Become and remain UFO free all year – having been UFO free all year, I finally have to admit that ‘that’ scarf and the mitred mystery haven’t been touched for months ๐ฆ
Write up non-DYC kit patterns within a month of completing an object/garment – Eek! Still not written up the Heartfelt cardigan pattern I finished months ago.
Work on my patchwork quilt for and average of an hour each day – opps! Haven’t touched this for ages. But it’s getting cold, so I need to pick it back up very soon.
Indulge in creative play one afternoon a weekย –ย I’ve not been managing this every week, but am doing some ๐
Give yourself a pat on the shoulder ๐ I think you have done amazingly well. Setting goals and reviewing them isn’t something I’ve done but I can see the benefit in doing so. I have a few weeks to think about it ๐

I know everyone doesn’t get on with goals, but they’re not just about hitting targets, they can be used in many different ways. I wrote a couple of posts about why and why not to set goals ages ago. Here’s the links if you’re interested. https://thedartmooryarncompany.com/2015/09/01/five-reasons-goals-setting-can-help-your-creative-endeavours/ and https://thedartmooryarncompany.com/2015/09/09/nine-reasons-not-to-set-goals-for-your-creative-endeavours/

Thank you. Both these posts are helpful and reiterate what I think. There definitely needs to be a balance between getting things done and creative play ๐

Hmmm – good progress all things considered but it sounds like I won’t be wearing my Dartmoor Yarns Heartfelt cardigan any time soon ๐ฆ
Is the Christmas jumper going to be a plum pudding or is it not rounded enough at the bottom for that, maybe a reindeer head or is it a secret?

Thank you. All considered I was gobsmacked I’d done so well, but didn’t want to harp on about the ‘all things considered’, since we all have life throwing stuff at us.
So sorry about your cardigan. I did think of you and I will write it up, but I got nowhere near it in the last couple of months – but I will!
I admit I’m Christmas pudding obsessed at the moment, but it is a reindeer – Secret only for LH – the nose will be added after ๐

Youve been so busy, I always feel inspired to write lists and have goals after reading your progress. Makes me want to get my life in order! ๐

Thank you. Although I definitely don’t feel as if my life’s in order. As for goal setting, I think you achieved an amazing goal with your dedication to getting healthier this year! That’s such a hard one (and one you know I’m struggling with. Creative goals are much more fun and easier ๐

Well done on achieving so much, especially when life goes off kilter. I have done nothing towards any of my goals in October, how rubbish is that!

Thank you. Not rubbish at all. As I always say, there’s often more to learn from not achieving a goal than achieving it. xx

You are doing excellent. The sweater is going to be stunning.
Have a great month of November, before we know it, we are on the way to December. ๐
