Advice Please

Thank you to everyone who gave me their thoughts on the hat yesterday.  Listening to everyone’s suggestions and advice really helped. Like many of you I liked Porta Patet’s  suggestion of adding beads to the tassels and have decide to have a go at that.

However, when I thought about doing it, I first thought about tying a knot in the bottom of the yarn tassel to secure the beads. Then I thought I could make a double length tassel and loop it back up, so that there was no knot showing.

I liked the idea of having no knot, but I didn’t like the idea of a loop at the bottom. So, I’m afraid, I’m back being demanding again and asking, does anyone have any ideas of how to add the beads in a single strand without a knot at the bottom? Or does anyone have any other ideas about different ways to add the beads?

Thanks again for all your thoughts yesterday, they were really helpful!

  1. The only way I know is with a knot at the bottom, but I think that is OK, it adds weight to the end to help keep it in place. You could knot the yarn below the bead, or you could knot the yarn around the bead.

    1. Thanks – I was wondering if i was being stupid not being able to think of another way, but maybe that is the only way. Mind, I’ve gone off at a tangent since I posted this and am thinking of adding 3/4 small pom poms to the bottom of the tassels! Heaven knows what made me think of that 🙂

      1. Whew! I pictured you parked in your living room, staring at the hat, trying beads and pompoms and fringes on this poor hat over and over until the cute tassel was felted with use. 🙂

  2. I think the only other way to fix the beads on without a knot is to glue them. It would have to be something with a bit of body to it but you could do something like: add bead, move it higher than intended position, place a bit of glue on the wool, then move the bead back down over the glue.
I have never tried it so I don’t know the longevity of this method.
But you could use it to place beads at different heights on the tassels.
