I’ve knitted a few Baby Berry hats for new arrivals and know I can easily whip one up in an evening – so when Lovely Littlest asked me to make one for one for her expectant friend I was more than happy to do so – especially since I thought I has enough scrap yarn from previous hats.
Unfortunately I didn’t. But then I remembered the left over yarn from this cardigan I made nearly three years ago for my great niece….
I dug it out…
And whisked up a scrap happy baby berry hat…
I’m joining in this month with Kate & Gun’s monthly Scrap Happy Day where you too can use your scraps of fabric, yarn, paper, wood, anything to make something useful or lovely or both and show it off to the world. You don’t have to join in every month, only when you have something to show. Here’s a list of the other Scrap Happy participants should you want to visit their blogs:
Kate , Gun, Titti, Heléne, Eva, Sue, Nanette, Lynn, Lynda,
Birthe, Turid, Susan, Cathy, Debbierose, Tracy, Jill, Claire, Jan, Karen,
Moira, Sandra, Linda, Chris, Nancy, Alys, Kerry, Claire, Jean, Johanna,

Aw! That cardigan is divine.
I meant to ask you last time you posted about one of those little hats, whether it’s your pattern or a commercial one. The words ‘in an evening’ appeal – as does the yarn which has the appearance of Stylecraft DK and I have plenty of those scraps.

The shame is, great niece is now two and a half, so long out of it 😦
The link at the top will take you to the pattern on ravelry – it’s free – I’m sure that word appeals too.
As for the Stylecraft appearance…
It’s actually Debbie Bliss cashmerino, but I’ve knitted my others in less pretentious yarn.

Thanks for that. I can see the slight fuzziness on the hat now I look – however, it will be a good scrap buster or I won’t make it at all.
Eek, I see DPNs are mentioned – I’ll probably still have a go though.

I used circulars. I never ever use DPNS!

OOh cute! You wouldn’t believe this – I sorted through my own stash of patterns on Monday and came across this same pattern I’d downloaded and printed off and never knitted! It’s on my long list of things to make.

Go for it! It doesn’t take long at all and it’s so cute – mind, you need a baby to put it on too 🙂

Such a cute little hat, and just perfect for any little baby. 🙂 It is really nice to have yarn and a quick pattern on the ready when you need a gift. Making one in an evening is a great plus.
🙂 The colours in this one is perfect.

It is cute – and always good to feel you’ve been able to make something for nothing 🙂
You’re right, despite being the scraps I had, they yarn is perfect.

Thank you. I tend to wish that when I haven’t – then went I have I think they grow so fast they’ll only be in what I knit for five minutes, so it’s not worth doing. I’ve only knitted one sweater for our new great nephew due in next month – haven’t even knitted one of these hats for him!

Well this is all true of course but really, your new great nephew must have a hat even if it is just for five minutes. Then if you get a photo he’s in it forever 🙂

True. Although I will now have to buy some hat yarn, as I’ve used my suitable scraps on this one!

If you have used up all your scraps then clearly a new collection needs to be started …….. ❤

What lovely colours… and what posh yarn! I bought a few balls of some baby cashmere/merino/silk a couple of weeks ago and it’s so soft, I keep finding myself stroking it, so I can imagine how soft your hat is.

It is – I wouldn’t have brought such posh yarn for a hat, but the cardigan was special, so ended up with special scraps 🙂
Enjoy working with your new yarn.
